One Cake Leaves

So it was my birthday again. Again.

You again

Judging by the candle I'm still one. I really can't keep track of all these birthdays - I just eat the cake. Now technically this celebration was yesterday, but I'm posting about it today because said cake and its after-effects made blogging challenging last night. I might only be one (many times over) but I'm wise in the way of cake and babies. This was a double chocolate cake. DOUBLE CHOCOLATE!! Given to a baby right before bedtime. Do the math. Or I can just sum it up for you in one word: Thunderdome.

Wait, you're taking photos?

Needless to say, this was me at night-night time:

So thank you for the super-extended-lullaby portion of bedtime, Daddy! You have a lovely and soothing singing voice.  xoxo

Barefoot in the Park

There's nothing like running barefoot in Central Park on a sunny day when you've just learned how to walk.

Fashion Week Prep

I wore my new jeans today! So naturally I had to put them through their poses to break them in:

Standing on stepstool

Sitting on stepstool

Headstand, of course

Tummy roll

Casual lean

The last pose may look simple but it is deceptively complex. Notice how I'm extending the leg with butterfly detailing yet leaning ever-so-casually against the sofa, delicately resting my fingers in my mouth, and gazing off into the distance all at the same time. This is an advanced pose that's usually sported by seasoned walkers, but I'm totally pulling it off. Guess I have good genes. (See what I did there?!)

The Artificial Grass is Always Greener Than Asphalt

So I'm an urban baby. I was born in Manhattan and I live in Manhattan. However, I do get out to the 'burbs every once in a while to visit with relatives, where I've been known to run around in some grass. But being an urban baby limits my exposure to grass. Most of the playgrounds I go to involve asphalt and some sort of hard rubber to fall on. Whee! But today, I discovered something different. Something wonderful.

Artificial grass.

This asphalt feels different.
I was very surprised by this new material beneath my feet and wasn't sure what to do at first.  So I popped a squat and took it all in.

I sat like this for quite some time. Too long, if you ask Mama. Eventually I saw something I liked and started to move. I used my baby charms and soon enough, it was mine:

Red bat!
My new friend Jackson was nice enough to share. That's Jackson in the upper left of the photo, all decked out in his hat, sunglasses, madras shorts,  and Vans. He's cool like that. But then I saw something even better:

Yellow pail!
I didn't care whose it was - it was mine now! Wait, what's that?:

Orange bucket!
Notice how I even veered off of the artificial grass for the orange bucket? Just trying to honor your love of orange and make you proud, Daddy! If only there was something blue around here, too...

Blue slide!

Let Me Eat Cake!

Friday was boring, but over the weekend I did this:

And then I celebrated another birthday! Or maybe it was the same birthday again? It's so confusing but who cares - there was more cake!!

Give me some cake...
...or I'll cry.

Get in, sweet cake!

I'm all about efficiency:

Oh, did you want some?

My bad.

O Captain, My Captain!

Today I:

read some books,

and was just minding my own business until - WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??

Is there someone behind me?
Oh, just a giant animatronic dinosaur. That's cool.

Right back atcha

Also, I picked my favorite Pez dispenser:

Captain America. That's really cool.

Yes, Indeed

I'm walking. Like, full on walking. Pretty much all the time. It's what I do all day. And it was easy. Here's how:

Step 1 (pun intended!): Turn one.

Step 2: Walk.

It was that easy.

Love Plus One

Yesterday I turned one! Today I refused to nap. Also, I'm teething like a rabid wolf, insisting on walking at all times (despite repeatedly falling and upsetting myself), and climbing on everything. While climbing I fell on a shelf in the closet, leaving a giant bump on my head. Later, I tried to eat some dirty shoes. You know, just normal one-year-old stuff.

Mama seems fussy. Therefore, there will be no photos from today. Instead, here's a photo from yesterday:

I'm one!!
Did I mention it was my FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!?

Falling with Style

Daddy, as you know, Uncle Trevor, Aunt Laura, and cousin Julian are in town. We are having sooo much fun and doing lots of exciting things! Here I am waking Julian up in the morning and scaring him off of the air mattress:

I scared Julian get off the air mattress so I could do this:

I'm not sure why we haven't permanently had an air mattress on the floor - it's much easier on my knees (and way more fun!) to crawl around on. Don't worry, Monkey was supervising from up front.

Later Julian and I did some people watching.

What's up, suckers?
That's me on the right.

Then Uncle Trevor tried putting on some of my necklaces, but his head is too big. (Daddy insert snarky comment here.)

So instead we did this:

Before bed, Julian, Rex, and I settled down to watch Toy Story. We were all riveted.

It was the first movie I've ever seen and it was CRAZY GOOD!!! It had me on the edge of my seat! In fact, it was so crazy good, I fell off my seat. Really.

I'm OK!!

Uncle Trevor is here!

I love you, Uncle T!

Yes, I'm signing 'I love you' AND wearing my 'I Love My Uncle' onesie!! I learned all about redundancy from you, Daddy! (I'm also holding a fake chicken drumstick, piece of lettuce, and potato chip, but I swear I'm so happy because of Uncle Trevor. I do love my fake food, too, though.)

(I'd also like to give a shoutout to my uncles Alex, Bissy, and Barry! HOLLAAAA!!)

Monkeying Around

Wait, here I am!

I was just messing with you!

I also tried messing around with the toy basket again today. It's still not that much fun.

Not that much fun
